Club Committees
2006-07
Awards and Nominations:
The Awards and Nominations Committee coordinates the Kiwanian of the Month/Year
and New Kiwanian of the Year awards. It selects and presents Everyday Hero
Awards and recommends Citizen of the Year candidates. It selects and
presents a slate of officers and board members for the next year.

This committee meets the first Wednesday of each month from 11:30 am to noon at
the Corvallis Inn.
Berry Sales:
The annual Berry Sale is a major annual fund-raising effort that involves
several local Kiwanis clubs. Various berries are provided between May and
August be Stahlbush Island Farms. The Berry Sale Committee coordinates the
sale of these berries each summer for the Kiwanis Club of Corvallis.

This committee meets on a schedule determined by the committee during the berry
sale season.
Budget and Finance:
The Budget and Finance Committee collects budget requests for the Kiwanis
fiscal year from committee chairs and officers, proposes allocations for
the administrative and service budgets to the board of directors. advises the
board, treasurer and membership of budget issues and policy. Chairperson:
Jim Searcy, jim@asmc.com. This committee
meets during the late summer to plan the upcoming year's budget and then
as needed throughout the year.
Community Services:
The Community Services Committee is one of two major service committees in the
Kiwanis Club of Corvallis. It is responsible for planning and coordinating
various service projects that benefit the community at large. It responds
to requests for community assistance and conducts on-going programs such as Grab
Bar Installation, Home Life, Neighborhood Housing, Vina Moses, Meals on Wheels,
Old Mill Center for Children, Operation Iraq and the South Corvallis Entrance
Project to name a few. Chairperson: Alice Mills Morrow, morrowam@comcast.net.
This committee meeting every third Wednesday of each month from 7:00-8:00 am at
Corvallis Elmer's Restaurant.
Feed the Hungry Local Kids:
Oregon holds the dubious distinction of having one of the highest rates of
hunger in the nation and young kids make up at least 44 percent of this
population. The Feed the Hungry Local Kids Committee coordinates donation
for food and money to and from Linn-Benton Food Share and the Fill the Backpacks
program to feed the hungriest kids and families over weekends. Chairpseron:

Holiday Greens Sale:
The Holiday Greens Committee is a cooperative fund-raising effort between the
Kiwanis Club of Corvallis and Kiwanis Western Hills. Holiday greenery
items are sold. Chairperson: Elise Schloeder, 541-758-6241. This
committee meets on an as-needed basis, particularly during the latter part of
each calendar year.
Human and Spiritual Values:
Kiwanis International list six basic objects, one of which says, 'Give primacy
to the human and spiritual, rather than the material values of life."
One of the regular activities of this committee is arranging for members to
contribute words of inspiration during weekly meetings. Chairperson: Bob
Stebbins, stebbinr@peak.org. This
committee meets on an as-needed basis.
Interclub:
One way to meet new people is to attend Kiwanis meetings in other
communities. When four or more members from one club attend a meeting of
another club, this is known as an "interclub meeting." The
Interclub Committee is responsible for coordinating these events.
Chairpersons: Les Whittle. This committee meets on an as-needed basis.
Kiwanis Fall Festival Run:
This is another seasonal fund-raising committee. Putting together a
community run/walk event is a great way to raise money for worthwhile programs
while promoting good health at the same time. The Fall Festival Run occurs
at the same time as the Corvallis Fall Festival in late September of each
year. Chairperson: Jack Peters.
Marketing and Membership:
Without a doubt, the strength and vitality of any club is its members.
Growth of a club through constant infusion of new members, positive involvement
and community education is the important task of this committee.

Pancake Party:
This is another major fund-raising activity that our club engages in. In
April of each year, the Kiwanis Club of Corvallis puts on huge community pancake
feed at Linus Pauling Middle School. Children's anti-crime posters are
displayed and various kinds of entertainment provided. This is the club'
single-biggest fund-railing event of the year. Chairperson: Mickey

This committee meets on an as-needed basis during the pancake party planning
season.
Printer Cartridge Recycling:
The Kiwanis Club of Corvallis raises funds by recycling spend printer
cartridges. Chairperson: Mike Boegel, mboegel@comcast.net.
Program and Fellowship:
One of the benefits of being a member of Kiwanis is being able to take advantage
of the excellent opportunity to learn about interesting things going on within
the community. The Program and Fellowship Committee is responsible for
scheduling presentations of general interest at each of the Kiwanis regular
weekly meetings (except Club Day on the last Wednesday of the month). It
submits weekly club meeting notices in the FYI column of the Corvallis
Gazette-Times newspaper and maintains information about the status of
members/spouses who are ill. Chairperson: Bob Stebbins, stebbinr@peak.org.
Sick Bay Coordinator: John Landers, 541-753-7603. This committee meets
every second Wednesday from 11:30 am to noon at Corvallis Inn.
Reception and House:
Each week, the Kiwanis Club of Corvallis conducts its regular meeting. The
Reception and House Committee has the responsibility of ensuring that flags,
club banners and name badges are properly displayed, that lunch and raffle
tickets are sold and that guests are properly introduced. Chairpersons:
Les Whittle and Muriel Hilliard. This committee meets on an as-needed
basis.
Young Children - Priority
One:
The primary purpose of the Kiwanis Club of Corvallis is to help needy children
under the age of five. An example of this mission has been participating
in Kiwanis International's effort to eradicate iodine deficiency disorders (IDD).
Chairperson: Jerry Groesz, ggroesz@firstam.com.
This committee meets every third Thursday from noon to 1:00 pm at China Blue
Restaurant.
Youth Services:
The Youth Services Committee supports the youth of our community through a wide
range of activities. This includes such things as student of the month
from both Corvallis high schools, scholarships to students of the year,
financial assistance to youth attending events or programs that will help them
achieve life's goals, fighting delinquency through support of scouting programs
and safety education. The committee studies, devises and suggests methods
to assist children in social, economic and moral ways. It develops ways
and means of assisting in vocational and career guidance of youth.
