2009-2010 Club Committees

Audit:   This committee provides annual audit duties and responsibilities. Chairperson Duane Johnson.
Awards and Nominations:
The Awards and Nominations Committee coordinates the Kiwanian of the Month/Year and New Kiwanian of the Year awards.  It selects and presents Everyday Hero Awards and recommends Citizen of the Year candidates.  It selects and presents a slate of officers and board members for the next year.  Chairperson Al Hall. Meets monthly

Berry Sales:
The annual Berry Sale is a major annual fund-raising effort that involves several local Kiwanis clubs.  Various berries are provided in August from Stahlbush Island Farms.  The Berry Sale Committee coordinates the sale of these berries each summer for the Kiwanis Club of Corvallis.  Chairperson: Dave Thomas. This committee meets on a schedule determined by the committee during the berry sale season.

Budget and Finance:
The Budget and Finance Committee collects budget requests for the Kiwanis fiscal  year from committee chairs and officers, proposes allocations for the administrative and service budgets to the board of directors. They also advise the board, treasurer and membership of budget issues and policy.  Chairperson: Jim Searcy.  This committee meets during the late summer to plan the upcoming  year's budget and then as needed throughout the year.

Community Services:
The Community Services Committee is one of two major service committees in the Kiwanis Club of Corvallis.  It is responsible for planning and coordinating various service projects that benefit the community at large.  It responds to requests for community assistance and conducts on-going programs such as Grab Bar Installation, Home Life, Vina Moses, Meals on Wheels, Old Mill Center for Children, and the South Corvallis Entrance Project to name a few.  Chairperson: Harry Lorz. This committee meets every third Wednesday of each month.

Fall Festival Run:
This is a seasonal fund-raising committee.  Putting together a community run/walk event is a great way to raise money for worthwhile programs while promoting good health at the same time.  The Fall Festival Run occurs at the same time as the Corvallis Fall Festival in late September of each year.  Chairperson: Megan Cadwell. Meets as needed

Holiday Greens Sale:
The Holiday Greens Committee is a cooperative fund-raising effort between the Kiwanis Club of Corvallis and Kiwanis Western Hills.  Holiday greenery items are sold.  Chairperson: Jerry Groesz.  This committee meets on an as-needed basis, particularly during the latter part of each calendar year.

Human and Spiritual Values:
Kiwanis International list six basic objects, one of which says, "Give primacy to the human and spiritual, rather than the material values of life."  One of the regular activities of this committee is arranging for members to contribute words of inspiration during weekly meetings.  Chairperson: Will Gamble.  This committee meets on an as-needed basis.

Interclub:
One way to meet new people is to attend Kiwanis meetings in other communities.  When four or more members from one club attend a meeting of another club, this is known as an "interclub meeting."  The Interclub Committee is responsible for coordinating these events.  Chairpersons: Beth Fox.  This committee meets on an as-needed basis.

Marketing & Publication:
Committee sends out news releases, helps with brochures, provides meeting notices & club messages, oversees the club website and puts together a yearly membership directory.  This committee is vital to Kiwanis to help continue growth and service through communication; telling the community of the good by ordinary people performing extraordinary work. Chairperson: Cheri Galvin. This committee meets on an as-needed basis.

Membership:
Without a doubt, the strength and vitality of any club is its members.  Growth of a club through constant infusion of new members, positive involvement and community education is the important task of this committee.  Chairperson: Jack Ross. Meets as needed.

Pancake Party:
This is a major fund-raising activity that our club engages in.  In April of each year, the Kiwanis Club of Corvallis puts on huge community pancake feed at Linus Pauling Middle School.  Various kinds of entertainment is provided. Chairperson: Bob Stebbins. This committee meets on an as-needed basis during the pancake party planning season.

Printer Cartridge Recycling:
The Kiwanis Club of Corvallis raises funds by recycling spent printer cartridges.  Chairperson: Earl Garthwait. Meets as needed

Program and Fellowship:
One of the benefits of being a member of Kiwanis is being able to take advantage of the excellent opportunity to learn about interesting things going on within the community.  The Program and Fellowship Committee is responsible for scheduling presentations of general interest at each of the Kiwanis regular weekly meetings (except Club Day on the last Wednesday of the month).  It submits weekly club meeting notices in the FYI column of the Corvallis Gazette-Times newspaper and maintains information about the status of members/spouses who are ill.  Chairperson: Doug Conrad. Meets as needed

Reception and House:
Each week, the Kiwanis Club of Corvallis conducts its regular meeting.  The Reception and House Committee has the responsibility of ensuring that flags, club banners and name badges are properly displayed, that lunch and raffle tickets are sold and that guests are properly introduced.  Chairperson: Roger Danielson.  This committee meets on an as-needed basis.

S.O.S. (Save Old Spectacles):  Collecting used glasses, having them reconditioned, and then giving the glasses to needy hospitals and health centers worldwide for folks that urgently need them. Chairperson: Kris Egan.

Sick Bay Reports:  Sending caring messages of support to members while they are experiencing challenges in their lives, and coordinating help if needed. Chairperson: John Landers.  This committee meets on an as-needed basis.

Young Children - Priority One:
The primary purpose of the Kiwanis Club of Corvallis is to help needy children under the age of five.  An example of this mission has been participating in Kiwanis International's effort to eradicate iodine deficiency disorders (IDD).  Chairperson: Jerry Groesz.  This committee meets every third Thursday from noon to 1:00 pm at China Blue Restaurant.

Youth Services:
The Youth Services Committee supports the youth of our community through a wide range of activities.  This includes such things as student of the quarter from both Corvallis high schools, scholarships to students of the year, financial assistance to youth attending events or programs that will help them achieve life's goals, fighting delinquency through support of scouting programs and safety education.  The committee studies, devises and suggests methods to assist children in social, economic and moral ways.  It develops ways and means of assisting in vocational and career guidance of youth.  Chairpersons: Betty Brose and Sandra Thiesen.  This committee meets every second Tuesday from 7:00 to 8:00 am at Corvallis Elmer's Restaurant.
