In an effort to help elderly and physically disabled people maintain independent living lifestyles in their homes, the Kiwanis Club of Corvallis began a program to install safety grab bars at little cost to the homeowner. A cooperative effort between Corvallis Custom Kitchens & Baths and the Kiwanis Club has resulted in grab bar installations in over 100 Corvallis homes during the past two years.
Corvallis Custom Kitchens & Baths provides the grab bars to the club at wholesale cost and also acts as the phone contact between the homeowners and the Kiwanis volunteers. All requests are sent on to our volunteers, who set the installation appointments with the homeowners. The process takes from one day to two weeks from date of request until installation, depending on the availability of our volunteer installers.
The Kiwanis Club does not charge for this service, but asks for a donation of $25.00 per grab bar to cover the cost of the materials. The donation is not mandatory, but helps us to continue offering this service to those in need who cannot afford to make a donation.
